Hey all...
I am almost ready to buy a 3D package, and so far, in terms of
price, and features, Lightwave appears to be the best deal.
But I'm a bit nervous about handing over $1400 (Canadian) for a
program before I've even tried using it, to get a feel for it. (That's your
cue, Newtek.... put out a demo).
So basically all that I know about the product is gleaned from what
I've seen on feature lists, and I've heard while lurking here.
If any of you could answer a few questions that I have about
Lightwave that'd be great.
1. How is the modeller for creating organic shapes? One of my main
interests is in doing character animation (although I do want the
functionality of Lightwave, over say, MHA). Aside from the standard toolsed
(sweep, lathe, bevel, etc.) and the metaform tool (BTW: how good is the
metaform tool?, in comparison to MetaReyes, or Winblob?)? Does the modeller
have a deformation tool, like in trueSpace?
2. How is the animator suited to character animation. Are the
bones up to the task? Can bones and IK be used in combination (by this I
mean, IKing the bones)? And how does the IK compare to that of 3DS?
3. Does Lightwave 4.0 (Windows) import and export DXF files? This
is of fairly large importance, as I would be wanting to take models between
Lightwave at home, and 3DS at school.
Thank you very much for your time, and thanks in advance for your
answers.
Regards,
Jonathon Bowman
